Dyson V12 Release Date, Price And Features

Instead of launching the V12 as expected in the UK and the US this spring, Dyson released the V15 Detect. So, what happened to the V12? Here’s what we know.

Dyson’s cordless vacuum cleaner releases have followed a relatively predictable pattern, although the brand has thrown a couple of curveballs along the way. Back in 2015, Dyson released the V6, named after the iteration of the patented Hyperdymium motor that powered it. The following year, it released the V8, but then doubled back to launch the more budget-friendly, lower-powered V7 in 2017.

The V9 motor only appeared in the Supersonic hairdryer, so the next cordless cleaner launch was the V10, which occurred in in 2018, followed by the V11 in 2019.

So does that mean we think Dyson will bypass the V12? We don’t – and here’s why. Dyson has already launched a V12 model in some territories: the V12 Detect Slim.

When is the Dyson V12 Detect Slim’s release date?

Dyson launched the V12 Detect Slim in China on 25 March. Just over two months later, it was released in Australia, alongside the V15 Detect and the Omni-glide.

There is no launch information yet for the US or UK.

What is the Dyson V12 Detect Slim’s price?

In China, the V12 Detect Slim Absolute Extra is available to buy for ¥5,590 from Dyson China, which is approximately £616/$870/€715 at the current exchange rate. That doesn’t necessarily mean that these will be the prices when the product launches in other territories.

It’s also important to note that the Absolute Extra tends to be the Dyson edition with the most cleaning heads and accessories – which means it’ll likely be the most expensive edition of the V12 Detect Slim.

The website TekShanghai has the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Total Clean on sale for ¥4,990 (approximately £550/$777/€639 at the exchange rate now). The Total Clean edition comes with fewer accessories, hence the lower price.

In Australia, the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Total Clean is priced at AUD1,199 and the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute Extra at AUD1,249. The latter is in a gold colourway that’s exclusive to the Australian market.

As yet, we don’t know what the price of the V12 Detect Slim will be in other territories.

What are the Dyson V12 Detect Slim’s features?

As the name suggests, the V12 Detect Slim is slimmer and lighter than the V15 Detect.

The Dyson V12 Detect Slim will have the same green diode laser and acoustic piezo sensor that features on the Dyson V15 Detect. The main cleaning head, the Laser Slim Fluffy head, uses a laser to illuminate dust that would otherwise be invisible.

The piezo sensor then converts the vibrations the dust produces into electrical signals, so that the vacuum cleaner’s LCD display can show the user the type and quantity of particles picked up. An image was pictured on Gizmodo.au.

According to Dyson Australia, the V12 Detect Slim measures 123.4 x 25 x 25.2cm and weighs a very light 2.2kg. It has 11 cyclones and charges in 4 hours. It has a 0.35 litre dustbin. It’ll give up to 60 minutes of vacuuming time (although this will be on the lowest setting).

It’s important to say that we don’t know for sure if these specifications will remain the same when the 12 Detect Slim launches in other territories but it seems likely.

Will there be other V12 models released?

It’s too early to say for sure, but it is more than possible that Dyson will release other V12 models.

Which accessories does the Dyson V12 Detect Slim come with?

This will depend on the editions available in each territory, as different editions, such as the Animal and the Absolute, come with different attachments. Typically, you’ll get the greatest number of cleaning accessories with an Absolute Extra edition.

We would expect every vacuum cleaner to come with the Laser Slim Fluffy head, and the Hair Screw tool, which is an all-new conical head designed to combat hair tangled up in the vacuum cleaner by spiralling it off into the dustbin. This attachment will also come with editions of the V15 Detect.

The Omni-glide and the V15 Detect are also part of Dyson’s new line-up of vacuum cleaners. To find out what we thought about the cleaners, check out our reviews of the Dyson V15 Detect, the Dyson V11 Outsize and the Omni-glide.
